Intersnack subsidiary KP Snacks is hiring more staff as building work gets under way on a multi-million pound facility at its Billingham factory - ‘the home of the Pom Bear’.

The food giant has been making some of Britain’s best-loved snacks for 70 years - now it’s investing in a 6 million GBP (USD 7.9 million) pellet production facility at its Cowpen Industrial Estate plant

Hula Hoops Puft and McCoy’s are manufactured at the site, as well as kids’ favourite Pom Bear.

Construction has already started at the site on Macklin Avenue, in time for a September 2019 completion date.

The latest phase of the factory will produce some of the ingredients used to make Pom Bear and Hula Hoops Puft.

Around 20 new positions are available at both manager and team member levels with roles including production, supply chain, engineering and hygiene.

The expansion comes as KP, one of Teesside’s largest employers with more than 700 staff, is preparing to celebrate half a century’s snack-making at Billingham.

It’s the largest of KP’s six UK sites.

“The pellet plant will create over 20 new positions in a number of different roles, including production, supply chain, engineering and hygiene at both manager and team member levels.”

“It’s a great year for this most recent investment to be taking place as Teesside celebrates its 50th birthday in 2019.”
