MK Agro upgrades its potato processing line in Poland with Forsfood’s Aurora Borealis USVA rollerknife re-peeler to boost capacity, reduce losses, and improve product consistency

Polish potato processor MK Agro has expanded its production capabilities and improved product consistency by investing in advanced peeling technology supplied by Finnish food processing technology provider Forsfood Oy.

Expanding production to meet local market demand

MK Agro specializes in pre-cooked potato products and serves the Polish food market with a strong focus on quality and efficient production. In spring 2025, the company launched a development project aimed at expanding its product portfolio to include uncooked potato products for local distribution. The expansion required new processing solutions capable of handling high volumes while maintaining consistent product quality, cost efficiency, and reliable daily operation.

Clear capacity and efficiency targets

The new production concept was designed for a processing capacity of approximately three tons of finished product per hour. To achieve this, MK Agro required peeling technology that could combine high processing capacity with low operating costs and minimal raw material losses. Low water consumption and efficient raw material utilization were also important considerations in the technology selection, supporting both operational efficiency and sustainable processing.

Selecting the right technology partner

During the evaluation phase in summer 2025, MK Agro assessed several technology options and selected Forsfood as its technology partner. Forsfood’s solution was chosen for its ability to combine industrial-scale capacity with gentle product handling and cost- efficient operation.

Beyond the technology itself, Forsfood’s long-standing collaboration with its Polish distributor, F.H. Najbar, added further value. Built on years of close cooperation and supported by geographical proximity, the partnership ensures fast response times, a strong local presence, and reliable expert support. Together, Forsfood and Najbar provide a robust and future-proof solution that gives MK Agro long-term operational confidence.

Re-peeling solution improves product consistency

During a site visit, an additional production challenge was identified. In order to further improve the quality of steam-peeled potato products, MK Agro required an efficient re- peeling solution. Forsfood responded by supplying and installing its rollerknife re-peeling machine, the Forsfood Aurora Borealis USVA.

In addition to equipment delivery, Forsfood supported MK Agro with process design and application expertise throughout the project. The system was successfully put into operation and has since performed reliably in daily production. According to MK Agro, the re-peeling installation has supported more consistent product quality and improved overall production efficiency. The company has also expressed high satisfaction with the technical cooperation with Forsfood.

Steam peeling is widely used in industrial potato processing due to its high capacity and efficiency. However, variations in raw material and processing conditions may result in partially peeled products . In such cases, an additional re-peeling step can be used to improve final product quality and increase yields.

Forsfood’s Aurora rollerknife peeling technology is designed for versatile peeling applications and has been proven to work effectively in combination with steam peeling, providing processors with greater flexibility in their peeling process.

Continued cooperation and future expansion

Building on the successful re-peeling installation, Forsfood will further support MK Agro’s growth by delivering components to a complete potato peeling line in January. The new line will enable peeling, cutting, and vacuum packaging of potatoes for distribution to the local Polish market. The continued investment reflects MK Agro’s commitment to expanding its processing capabilities while maintaining high standards of efficiency and product quality.

Key benefits of the rollerknife peeling technology

  • Low water consumption, supporting sustainable processing and reduced operating costs
  • Gentle peeling process that helps maintain consistent product quality
  • Low maintenance requirements, contributing to high uptime and reliable operation
  • Efficient raw material utilization, minimizing unnecessary product losses
  • High processing capacity suitable for industrial-scale potato processing

These characteristics make the rollerknife peeling system well suited for modern potato processing operations that require high efficiency, sustainable use of resources, and consistent product quality.
