Potato Storage near Deesa, Gujarat destroyed by fire

Potatoes worth millions of rupees were gutted in a major fire in the Khedut Cold Storage (KCS), owned by the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) at Deesa near here, fire officials said."Thousands of potato bags stored in the APMC Deesa owned cold storage, which were valued at several millions of rupees, were gutted in the fire,"they said.

"The farmers whose stock had been gutted in the fire will certainly get compensation,"Gova Desai, President of APMC, Deesa, said.The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately, but the APMC attributed the inferno to a short circuit.

Deesa, in Gujarat is referred to as potato town, and vegetable produce from here is used by fast food chain giant McDonald's for its french fries.
