On May 27, the Hokkaido Simbun press reported that the swedish potato chips manufacturer "Svenska Lantchips AB", will construct a new potato chips factory in Japan. Svenska Lantchips supplies potato chips to IKEA stores worldwide.

The new factory will be located in Uni-cho in the center of Hokkaido, which is the most northern prefecture in Japan.

The potato chips factory will begin production this August.Svenska Lantchips is planning to produce potato chips from two thousand metric tons of potatoes harvested in the east part of Hokkaido this storage season, said its Japan's branch company Hokuou Foods. The chips will be sold at three IKEA stores in Funabshi, Chiba and Koube cities in Japan's maine island.
