During the past few decades, the Belgian potato-processing industry experienced spectacular growth.
Whereas back in 1990 500,000 tonnes of potatoes were processed into frozen and fresh fries, croquettes in every possible shape, crisps, flakes or granules, this year the sector that is still so young will round the cape of 3 million tonnes of potatoes.
And as such Belgium joins the Netherlands and Germany within the EU that every year also process that tonnage of raw materials into potato products.
