In celebration of the 2nd International Day of Potato on May 30, 2025, the German Potato Trade Association (DKHV) and the Union of German Potato Economy (UNIKA) are launching a seven part LinkedIn series titled "Potato.COSMOS.CULTURE. – Stories from the Potato Universe".

Starting from May 24, 2025, the campaign invites participants on a diverse journey through the global potato universe. Central to this exploration is the worldwide significance and versatility of the potato – from its role as a staple food to its cultural, economic, and scientific dimensions. The series showcases the potato as a healthy food staple, a cultural symbol, and a surprising source of inspiration – spanning across the globe and beyond.

Through engaging and well-researched contributions, the series introduces international potato trends: from the Big Idaho Potato Hotel in the US to the Korean Netflix series "The Potato Lab", and even potato cultivation in zero gravity. It underscores how the potato connects cultures globally, inspires innovations – and leaves its mark in space exploration and the music scene.

A Food with History and Future

Since 2023, the UN General Assembly has officially recognized May 30 as International Day of Potato. This is reason enough to honor its significance in Germany as well – as a sustainable, healthy, and versatile food, as well as a significant agricultural commodity.

Moreover, the potato excels in ecological efficiency, nutrient-rich composition, and culinary diversity. Thanks to its high adaptability, it serves as a cornerstone of food security worldwide – and simultaneously drives innovation in industry, research, and society.

Through the LinkedIn series, DKHV and UNIKA aim to open new perspectives on the potato and foster dialogue with policymakers, industry professionals, and society. The campaign is complemented by a postcard initiative targeting decision-makers in politics, business, and academia. A QR code directs directly to the series.
