Beirut–Erbil Company successfully joined AGRO PACK Erbil, meeting industry leaders to explore partnerships that strengthen Iraq’s food supply chain. The team also welcomed the Dutch Ambassador, highlighting growing international interest in the Iraqi market.

Beirut Erbil Company welcomed Bulgarian Consul Vasil Vasilev, Dr. Trifon Iliev, and a delegation who praised its potato chips plant, warehouses, quality labs, and discussed future Iraq-Bulgaria trade and investment opportunities.

Beirut Erbil Company received His Excellency, the Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Erbil, Mr. Adriaan Jsselstein, at its headquarters. He was accompanied by Mrs. Eva Fijen, Second Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Dutch Embassy in Baghdad, along with members of the Dutch Consulate staff.

Bashir Jalal, a farmer from Duhok’s Sheikhan district, has been named Iraq’s top grower of the River potato variety by Agrico, thanks to 16+ years of dedication. His success highlights the Kurdistan Region’s thriving potato sector and growing exports.

The agricultural lands of Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorate, Iraq witnessed the commencement of the harvest season on January 2, 2024.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday laid the foundation stone of a potato production factory in Duhok, set to provide 500 jobs and make use of local potato products.

The potato harvest in Iraq has started. Staff of the Beirut Erbil Potato Processing Company (B.E.P.P. Co) - known in Iraq for their potato chips brands Mito and Mr, Krisper, but active throughout the entire potato supply chain - are working hard in various regions of Iraq from Karbala to Diyala to Al-Rabiah, Dohuk, Erbil, and beyond.

Farmers dumped their potatoes in front of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)’s agriculture ministry in Erbil on Thursday, protesting banned imports that have pushed their produce out of the market.

The Kurdish Ministry of Agriculture predicts that farmers will plant more than 15,000 tons of seed potatoes in mid-February, increasing the amount of potatoes produced in the region.

Potato production in Kurdistan has seen a 13-fold increase over the last 7 years and is well above domestic demand, allowing export of the surplus. Nevertheless, potatoes have to be imported later in the season, since local potato storage capacity is lacking.
