EFC Plants potato mini-tubers give 20-30% higher yield than conventional plantations, are free from disease and fetch a premium price in the market for uniform, evenly shaped potatoes. We offer: Spunta, Hermes, Lady Rosetta and other varieties. EFC Plants concentrates on potato production through tissue culture and the cultivation of mini-tubers of free and protected varieties using an innovative process. These minitubers are used for the production of high-quality potatoes for local farmers and for the export markets.
Process
At the start of tissue culture production, both potato tubers and stem segments are used to create new plantlets. The selected materials are first sterilized, after which the shoots are placed on a sterile culture medium. The newly formed micro plants serve as the foundation for further propagation in the laboratory.
The process at EFC Plants begins with certified potato micro plants that have been tested virus-free and approved. These are received in aseptic conditions from Europe’s leading germplasm banks and are subcultured under controlled climatic and sterile conditions. The team at EFC Plants carries out micro-propagation of meristems, with cuttings taken repeatedly until the required number of micro plants for each variety is achieved.
Throughout the propagation process—from laboratory stages to mini-tuber production in controlled greenhouses—plants are rigorously tested at every stage for viruses and bacteria. This ensures that the mini-tubers delivered to customers are completely disease-free and supplied with an EFC Plants certificate.
The tissue culture laboratory has a production capacity of 4,000,000 in-vitro plants per year, while the greenhouse facilities produce up to 8,000,000 mini-tubers annually. There are plans to double this capacity within the next three years.
EFC Plants operates year-round production (365 days) using advanced greenhouse infrastructure. Heating systems enable production during winter, while cooling systems ensure continuous production throughout the summer.
All tissue culture laboratories and mini-tuber production greenhouses are accredited, and all seeds are produced under the national certification scheme.
In addition, EFC Plants facilitates the procurement of potato varieties from international breeders under license and provides support with Plant Breeding Rights to protect these varieties. The company’s research and development team is also actively working on developing locally adapted potato varieties.
Orders are required to be placed at least one year in advance and a minimum of six months prior to the desired planting date.
