De Antwerpse scheepvaartagent en bevrachter TRS keert terug naar Vlissingen met een verkeer van ruim 100.000 ton aardappelen.
De lading is bestemd voor de Russische markt. De Russen eten momenteel hun eigen oogst op. Vanaf eind oktober beginnen ze aardappelen uit onze streken in te voeren.
Tot eind mei zullen er vijftig tot zestig afvaarten naar Sint-Petersburg zijn met schepen die telkens zo’n 2.000 ton laden. De zakken met aardappelen gaan op pallets aan boord.
Tijdens het vorige seizoen werkte TRS via Zeebrugge, waar de aardappelen geladen werden door ICO Terminals. Omdat de kwaliteit van de behandeling in Vlissingen beter is en de behandelingskosten er lager zijn, keert TRS dit jaar met zijn exporttrafiek terug naar Continental Stevedoring.
TRS vindt de terminal in Vlissingen zeer geschikt omdat die effen is. In het verleden werd de lading nog behandeld op oudere kaaien in Antwerpen en raakte de lading beschadigd. ‘Er lag puree op de kaai’, zegt directeur Guy Impens.
De allergrootste troef van Vlissingen is echter de flexibele havenarbeid. In de Belgische havens is die flexibiliteit inzake de samenstelling van de ploegen havenarbeiders er niet, waardoor de kostprijs flink oploopt.
