Het middel 1,4Sight (1,4-Dimethylnaphthaleen) verlengt de kiemrust van aardappelen zodanig dat bijvoorbeeld ook Innovators tot juni-juli kiemvrij te bewaren zijn. Dat claimt althans BASF. Met het gebruik van huidige middelen wordt dit kiemlustige aardappelras minimaal een maand eerder afgezet.
De gewasbeschermingsmiddelenfabrikant vroeg toelating aan voor de kiemrustverlenger in consumptie-aardappelen. Het middel komt op zijn vroegst in augustus volgend jaar op de markt.
Planteigen hormoon
1,4 Sight werkt op basis van het planteigen hormoon 1,4-dimethylnaphtalene. Deze kiemrustverlenger remt niet de celdeling tijdens het kiemen, maar het zorgt ervoor dat het fysiologische proces van kieming niet op gang komt. Aan het begin van dit proces werkt dit hormoon in de aardappel.
Volgens Fokko Prins van Agrifirm Plant geeft het samen met Chloor-IPC een goede werking: „Je kunt eerst dit nieuwe middel inzetten in de bewaring en het vervolgens vervangen door Chloor-IPC. 1,4Sight is immers duurder dan middelen op basis van Chloor-IPC."
