Event Description

The Potato Variety Trials is a field demonstration event showcasing promising potato varieties developed through Canada's National Potato Variety Evaluation Program. Hosted at the Lethbridge Polytechnic Research Farm, the event brings together growers, researchers, breeders, processors, and industry professionals to evaluate new potato lines for fresh market, chipping, and French fry production.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view trial plots, compare variety performance, and learn about important characteristics such as yield, tuber quality, disease resistance, storage potential, and climate resilience. The program is supported by the Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada, the Canadian Agri-Science Cluster for Horticulture 4, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) as part of Canada's national effort to develop more productive and sustainable potato varieties.

The event also provides valuable networking opportunities with producers, scientists, seed companies, processors, and industry partners while highlighting the latest advances in potato breeding and variety evaluation to support the future of the Canadian potato industry.
