Processing potato prices in Belgium have dropped to EUR 0 in , while maincrop potatoes fell to EUR 10 per tonne (USD 11) in March, driven by weak demand and ongoing oversupply in the industrial potato market.

Clarebout Potatoes, a top Belgian frozen fries producer, is in advanced talks with US giant J.R. Simplot for a major deal, possibly worth billions. The move could expand both firms’ global reach amid rising industry competition.

Alain Dufait became the new Managing Director of Lutosa the 1st of April. He succeeds Alain Duranleau, that held this role over the past 5 years.

With Anuga 2019 coming up, Lutosa has revealed a whole new lineup of products which will be on display during the event. First off, the company has unveiled the Lutosa Dipsters, which are French fries made from carefully selected potatoes.

On 4 and 5 September the international potato fair PotatoEurope 2019 will take place in
Tournai. That the fair continues to grow is demonstrated by the fact that there are almost
20% more exhibitors from 17 different countries.

The last potatoes were planted at the end of April at PotatoEurope’s demo site and until the end of May the participation demands continued to come in. With less than three weeks to go, time for an update!

On Wednesday October 17th, a new french fry production line was inaugurated at the Leuze-en-Hainaut site of McCain Foods subsidiary Lutosa SA. According to McCain Foods, this Lutosa plant is now world’s largest fully integrated potato processing plant.
