Solynta's potato variety was the only one to survive the high late blight pressure in the field among three other commercial varieties planted alongside.

Solynta and PepsiCo’s Ethiopia-based Foods Unit, Senselet Food Processing PLC (Senselet), have launched a project to introduce hybrid true potato seeds (HTPS) to Ethiopia.

PepsiCo is finalising an investment proposal of approximately USD 40 million (ETB 2 billion) to expand its Senselet snacks business in Ethiopia, and is considering the possibility of further investments in the country.

PepsiCo joins Veris as a major shareholder in Senselet Food Processing Plc in Ethiopia. Senselet, founded in 2015, today has a leading market position in Ethiopia with its SUN Chips brand that is being produced from locally sourced potatoes.
