Low tillage potato trial showed no impact on yield and quality
The amount and quality of the potatoes coming off Chad Berry’s field last fall weren’t that much different from one side to the other, but one half came with a lot less tillage.
Newly expanded french fry plants in Alberta and Manitoba may not be able to run at full capacity because there is little excess potato supply in other parts of North America.

Potato shortage looms on Prairies (Canada)
Potato processing plants in Manitoba and Alberta may not run at full capacity this winter. About 20,000 acres of potatoes were in the ground in Manitoba as of the middle of October, and growers needed two weeks of favourable weather to harvest the crop.

Rains keep Manitoba potato growers on edge
Manitoba potato growers are hoping the 2019 harvest isn’t a repeat of 2018. Harvest has been delayed in many areas after 50 to 125 millimetres of rain has fallen since Sept. 20.
Statistics Canada has published an estimate of the potato acreage for 2019. An update on the current condition of the crop was provided by United Potato Growers Canada.
