For the second consecutive year, a large process potato grower will head the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association.

Jeff VanRay from Pingree, North Dakota passed the gavel to Larimore, North Dakota grower Carl Hoverson at last Tuesday's annual banquet.

Hoverson Farms raises over 5,000 acres of potatoes, nearly all russets for processing at the Simplot fry plant in Grand Forks.

Carl has donated land for research plots on his farm and the past two years has hosted a pancake breakfast to kick off NPPGA Field Day at his operation along Highway 2 just north of Larimore.

In his acceptance speech, he said he would like to see increased promotion of Red River Valley Red Potatoes, and continuation of a strong research program.
