The Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Abdelouahab Nouri, has announced a programme to tackle the problem of soaring potato prices, consisting in the adoption of a new marketing strategy to connect producers and consumers directly. Furthermore, he also talked about an expansion of the country's irrigated areas.
Nouri said that the problem will be eliminated completely by preventing speculation and promoting "the product's marketing without intermediaries."
In the context, the Minister of Agriculture also confirmed that his Ministry will work in the expansion of the country's irrigated areas, from 1.36 million hectares to two million hectares by 2019.
