Transgenic potato variety 'Elizabeth' already sold in Russian market

'Elizabeth' is a transgenic potato variety developed at the Center of Bioengineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences using U.S. technologies.

The potato has reportedly been approved for using in the Russian food industry recently. According to Alexander Baturin, deputy director of Research at the Institute of Nutrition, 'RAMS', the new potato can be used in the food industry and is already sold in the market.

The potato variety was developed by Russian scientists using the Monsanto 'gene insertion technology', which makes the variety resistant to Colorado beetle.
