Donderdag 3 maart 2011 is op het Lommelse industrieterrein Maatheide rond 6 uur brand ontstaan in een grote frietketel van het bedrijf Farmo, een onderdeel van Farm Frites.
Kruim was aan het smeulen gegaan in een ketel met een grote hoeveelheid bakolie. Door het snelle ingrijpen van personeel met een tiental poederplussers kon erger voorkomen worden.
Ook de brandweer van Lommel werd verwittigd. "We hebben de brand in de ketel onder controle gehouden en de olie afgelaten.
De schade is vrij beperkt gebleven. Ondermeer door de aanwezigheid van een grote afzuiging en het snelle handelen van de werknemers", luidt het bij de brandweer.
Vorige week brandde op het terrein van Farm Frites nog een waterzuiveringsinstallatie van de VMW uit.
