Ukraine Imports Over Five Times More Potatoes in 10 Months Amid Falling Exports

Ukraine imported 123,140 tonnes of potatoes between January and October 2025, a 5.1-fold increase compared to the same period last year, according to the State Customs Service. The value of these imports rose 4.8 times, reaching USD 66.09 million, up from USD 13.69 million in 2024.

The largest suppliers were Poland (36.9%), Egypt (13.7%), and the Netherlands (11.6%), reflecting Ukraine’s growing reliance on foreign potato supplies.

Exports Decline in Volume but Grow Slightly in Value

During the same period, Ukraine’s potato exports fell 13.4%, amounting to 2,140 tonnes, Interfax-Ukraine reported. Despite lower volumes, export revenue increased 2.4% to USD 521,000, indicating improved pricing. Key export destinations included Moldova (58.5%), Azerbaijan (38.6%), and Singapore (0.6%).

In October 2025, imports dropped sharply to 359 tonnes, which is 11.4 times less than the 4,090 tonnes imported in October 2024. Conversely, exports for the month rose 4.6 times to 269 tonnes.
