De Duitse federatie voor telers van frites- en chipsaardappelen eist van de verwerkende industrie flexibeler contracten, waarmee de telers kunnen profiteren van plotselinge prijsstijgingen op de markt. "Als de industrie niet aan de eis tegemoet komt, heeft de rigide contractteelt zijn beste tijd gehad", waarschuwt de federatie in een via het Deutsche Bauernverband naar buiten gebrachte verklaring (in het Duits).
De federatie BAG Veredlungskartoffeln benadrukt dat met de huidige, langere termijncontracten de telers geen baat hebben bij hoge marktprijzen.
Volgens de federatie van akkerbouwers schakelen leden in de huidige situatie over op gewassen waarmee wel kan worden geprofiteerd van gunstige prijsbewegingen op de markt, bijvoorbeeld met behulp van termijnmarkten. "En als een teler eenmaal afscheid heeft genomen van de aardappelteelt is dat vrij definitief".
De Duitse landbouworganisatie Deutsche Bauernverband steunt de eis.
Ruim de helft van de Duitse consumptieaardappelsen is bestemd voor de productie van frites, chips en aardappeldeegproducten.
