The Central Potato Research Station, Gwalior has substantially contributed in the growth and development of potato in the region as well as at the national level.

The mandate of the station is research on different aspects of potato and to produce breeder seed of potato. Breeder seed produced at the station caters the need of Madhya Pradesh in particular and other states like Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. The station is producing breeder seed to the tune of 5000 to 6000 q annually.

Research works on Cropping systems, Agro-techniques for potato production, adaptation studies of potato under climate change scenario, insect vectors, potato crop protection, seed potato technology aspects, hi-tech planting material. and AICRP (Potato) is being carried out. Besides the research and seed programme, this station also serves as one of the all India Co-ordinated research project on potato.
