Mylnefield Research Services (MRS) Ltd is an affiliate of the James Hutton Institute based in Dundee, Scotland. The James Hutton Institute covers research thems such as agriculture, soils and land use, food, energy security, biodiversity, and climate change. Mylnefield Research Services was founded in 1989 as wholly-owned subsidiary of the Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI). On the 1st April 2011, following the merger of SCRI with the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute in Aberdeen, the ownership of Mylnefield Research Services transferred from SCRI to the James Hutton Institute. Mylnefield Research Services is responsible for commercialising the intellectual property and expertise of the Institute. The profits made by MRS are gift aided back to the James Hutton Institute and reinvested in research. The James Hutton Institute and its predecessor the Scottish Crop Research Institute, has a long history of breeding commercially successful varieties, including the Pentland Dell and Pentland Javelin. The Institute is also is a world leader in the study of pests and diseases and has considerable experience in developing models of potato crops for use by individual farmers or agronomists.
