Potatoes moving through an Intralox S1750 modular plastic belting system in a potato washer and destoner application
Intralox Promotes S1750 Modular Plastic Belting for Potato Washers and Destoners

Intralox is promoting its Series 1750 (S1750) modular plastic belting as an alternative to conventional rodded chains used in potato processing washers and destoners/rock traps.According to the company, rodded chains used in heavy-duty potato processing applications can create maintenance challenges, unplanned downtime and higher operating costs due to wear, elongation and difficult handling during repairs.
Designed for demanding potato processing environments
The S1750 modular plastic belt is designed for abrasive and high-load conditions commonly found in potato washer and destoner applications. Intralox states that the belt is manufactured from FDA-approved materials and incorporates a patented rod design intended to improve durability and reduce wear over time.
The company indicated that the belt can last 2.5 to 3 times longer than conventional rodded chain belts while reducing elongation and supporting more predictable maintenance schedules.
Reduced maintenance and simplified handling

The S1750 modular plastic belt is designed to support potato washing operations with improved drainage and reduced maintenance requirements
Intralox said processors converting to the S1750 system may reduce maintenance costs by up to 90% while minimizing unscheduled downtime in critical processing stages. Unlike traditional steel rodded chains, the modular plastic design is lighter and easier to install, maintain and repair without requiring heavy lifting equipment. The modular construction also supports retrofit installations with limited modifications to existing conveyor systems.
Positive drive and open-area belt design
The S1750 uses a positive drive system intended to transport heavy product loads without slippage or mistracking while reducing the number of moving conveyor components. In wash applications, the open-area belt design is intended to improve water flow, drainage and pump efficiency. Intralox also states that processors may benefit from lower water consumption, improved throughput and reduced product loss.
Focus on operational efficiency
According to Intralox, the investment in converting to the S1750 system can typically be recovered within one year. The company also offers conversion kits and engineering support intended to help processors transition from rodded chain systems with minimal operational disruption.
