Het agrarische marktbureau AMI (voormalige ZMP) heeft op de aardappelmanifestatie Potato Europe 2010 een prognose gegeven voor de totale aardappeloogst van de EU-15 en voor de totale Duitse oogst. De meest spectaculaire prognose is die van de Duitse aardappeloogst, die volgens het AMI slechts gaat uitkomen op 9,80 miljoen ton. Dat is 17% minder dan in oogstjaar 2009 toen de definitieve aardappeloogst werd vastgesteld op 11,80 miljoen ton.
Het seizoen 2010 komt in het rijtje van de kleinste aardappeloogst van de afgelopen decennia. Alleen in 2006 werd de definitieve oogst vastgesteld op 9,65 miljoen ton. Het late voorjaar en de aanhoudende droogte in het eerste deel van de zomer hebben dus hun tol geëist. In vooral het noordelijke deel van Duitsland, waar het areaal zetmeelaardappelen aanzienlijk is, heeft de droogte geleid tot flink lagere gemiddelde hectareopbrengst. De lage zetmeelaardappeloogst in de teeltgebieden van Noord-Duitsland drukken dan ook zwaar op de uiteindelijk totale Duitse aardappeloogst.
De aardappeloogst in de EU-15 landen wordt door het AMI ingeschat op 41 miljoen ton (in 2009: 45 miljoen).
