Telers van aardappelen zijn al zwaar getroffen door extreem lage kiloprijzen. Nu krijgen individuele boeren ook nog op grote schaal te maken met aardappelrot, waardoor hun oogst verloren gaat.
,,Sinds 1998 hebben we dit niet meer meegemaakt", verklaart directeur Wim van de Ree van de Nederlandse aardappeltelersorganisatie Nedato. Van de Ree schat dat twee procent van de geoogste aardappelen momenteel door rot is aangetast. Dat lijkt niet veel, maar in heel zuidwest-Nederland gaat het dan wel om 30.000 ton aardappelen. Van de Ree: "Dat is best veel. Zeker omdat er naar schatting ook rot zit in tien tot vijftien procent van de andere aardappelen, maar daarin is de rot nog beheersbaar."
