Management at McCain Foods manufacturing facility in Mehsana hosted senior Canadian government officials who were on a recent trade mission to India to strengthen and advance bilateral trade between the two countries.

Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway and his delegation chose to visit McCain Foods, one of several Canadian companies with operations in Gujarat.

During his tour of the facility, the Minister emphasized the importance of finalizing a trade agreement with India by 2013 which has the potential to boost Canada's economy, deepen two-way trade ties between Canada and India, and create jobs and opportunities for Canadian businesses and their workers.

"Canadian companies such as McCain are well positioned to facilitate and accelerate India's economic growth and provide the services and products India's consumers need", said Rajeev Chauhan, General Manager of McCain's Mehsana Plant.  "Both governments are working to create a Canada-India partnership that could lead to new opportunities for future growth."

Aside from trade talks, McCain's agriculture team had the opportunity to discuss the implementation of successful growing processes for quality potatoes resulting in better yields and lower expenses for local farmers.

After touring the Mehsana facility, the group was delighted to sample a selection of McCain's Indian ethnic potato specialties.
