Following Canada's overwhelming response to the Lay's "Do Us a Flavour"contest, Canadian comedic legend and campaign spokesperson Martin Short announces the four finalist potato chip flavour candidates.

It is now up to Canadians to try each of the four flavours and vote for their favourite at lays.ca/flavour (After July 30).

"After hundreds of hours of deliberation to evaluate the more than 600,000 flavour ideas received by Lay's Canada, the final four candidates have been chosen! It is my honour to announce that Creamy Garlic Caesar, Grilled Cheese &Ketchup, Maple Moose and Perogy Platter are now in the running to become the next great flavour for Lay's in Canada,"says Martin Short.

In February, Lay's challenged Canadian potato chip lovers to propose new and innovative Lay's potato chip flavours. The broad volume of ideas submitted truly reflected Canada's vast mix of traditions, cultures, flavour diversity and passion for potato chips. The four flavour candidates are available now for a limited time. They are expected to fly off the shelves as Canadians strive to become informed voters in this important decision that will shape the next great flavour of Lay's potato chips in Canada.

"The decision of what will be the next great potato chip flavour is in the hands of Canadians. I am really excited to see what they will pick,"says Mr. Short. "I'm asking all Canadians to fulfill their chip flavour electoral duty and vote daily at www.lays.ca/flavour or text "VOTE"to 101010 by October 16. Be an informed voter. Visit your local store, try all 4 flavours and then vote daily for your favourite to win. But hurry, these flavours are only available while supplies last!"

Meet the candidates

The challenge ahead is to win over the hearts, taste buds and votes of chip aficionados nationally. It's a race for the chance to be the next new addition to the Lay's flavour line-up which includes favourites like Ketchup, BBQ, Dill Pickle, Sour Cream &Onion and Salt &Vinegar.

Here's a bit more information about each of the finalist flavours and their inspiration:

Creamy Garlic Caesar:

British Columbia's Jill Munro was thinking of Caesar - the king of salads, topped with tasty parmesan and croutons while dreaming up her flavour. For Canadians who like their salad with a crunch, Creamy Garlic Caesar is your candidate

Grilled Cheese &Ketchup:

Who doesn't cherish the memory of coming home from school for lunch and enjoying a grilled cheese sandwich with ketchup for dipping, made by mom? Ontario's own Angela Batley used this as her inspiration for what she hopes will be the next great Lay's flavour. For everyone who believes in creamy cheddar grilled cheese and tangy ketchup - vote Grilled Cheese &Ketchup today.

Maple Moose:

Newfoundlander Tyler LeFrense only needed to look around his hometown of Isle Aux Morts to draw his iconic inspiration. For Canadians who agree that maple syrup makes everything taste better, Maple Moose is the flavour to rally behind.

Perogy Platter:

Alberta's Lucas Crawford can't get enough of the perogy platter served at his favourite hometown diner. This was the spark for a brilliant chip flavour idea - one that would allow Lucas to enjoy this delight, with sweet onions and smoky bacon anytime, anywhere in chip format. For those who believe in hometown deliciousness, get behind the Perogy Platter candidate!
Canadian Lay's potato chip fans need to act fast to try all four of the limited time flavours while they can still be found in stores.

Once Canada has decided, the grand prize winner will have the special honour of taking home the grand prize of $50,000 plus 1 percent of their flavour's future sales (after the voting period ends on October 16, 2013) in addition to being Canada's choice for the next great Lay's flavour. The grand prize winner is set to be announced in November, 2013 and the winning flavour will be officially launched as a new Lay's flavour into the market at this time.
