This downward trend is mostly the result of the steady increase in the yield per acre.

Seeded area decreased in all provinces, except Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.

The largest reductions were seen in New Brunswick and Manitoba where the planted acreage was down by 4.5% and 4.2% respectively.

Prince Edward Island accounted for 26% of the potato acreage in Canada. Although it is the smallest province in Canada, Prince Edward Island is the largest potato producer in Canada.
