The 31st Congress of the Latin American Potato Association (ALAP) will be held from April 19 to 23, 2027, in Montevideo, Uruguay, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the association.
The 2027 Latin American Potato Congress will be held in Uruguay

From April 19 to 23, 2027, Uruguay will host the 31st Congress of the Latin American Potato Association (ALAP), the leading event related to potato cultivation in Latin America. This edition will also carry special symbolic value, as it will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the association.
Under the theme "50 years cultivating knowledge: the potato as Latin American food and culture," the congress will bring together scientists, researchers, academics, students, extension specialists, farmers, companies, and suppliers of technology and equipment from across the region.
The objective will be to promote the generation, integration, and dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge on potato cultivation, aimed at the development of sustainable production systems, while also highlighting the contribution of the potato as a food and its importance in Latin American culture.
Congress program
The program will include pre-congress workshops, keynote lectures, oral and poster presentations, round tables, and a field visit featuring technologies related to potato cultivation, in a proposal designed to foster technical and scientific exchange among the different actors in the value chain.
The main thematic areas include genetics, breeding and seed systems; crop management; plant health and crop protection; innovation and digital agriculture; potato as food, quality, nutrition, and value addition; and agri-food systems, markets, and development.
Event organization
The congress is organized by INIA, the University of the Republic, ANSEPA, and ALAP, institutions that are promoting this regional call from Uruguay.
Participation schedule
As for the participation schedule, the call for abstracts will open on May 11, 2026, and close on August 28, 2026. Notification to authors is scheduled for October 19, 2026, while the deadline for author registration will be November 25, 2026.
Early registration will be open from September 28 to November 25, 2026, and late registration from November 26, 2026, to April 1, 2027.
Montevideo as a meeting point
With this edition, Montevideo is preparing to become a meeting point for the scientific, technical, and productive potato community in Latin America, in an event that will combine knowledge, innovation, exchange, and future vision for the sector.
