De kredietcrisis en de daarmee gepaard gaande economische malaise bieden juist de cafetariasector kansen. Actief ondernemerschap is echter vereist.
De economie zit in een dip en een deel van de horeca heeft het moeilijk. Ook de cafetariasector kampte het laatste kwartaal met een stagnerende omzetgroei. Hoewel dat niet opgaat voor alle cafetaria's. Naast bedrijven die omzet verliezen, zijn er bedrijven die juist groeien. Actief ondernemen is het devies. 'De betere cafetaria's hebben een streepje voor bij de consument', zegt Chantal de Hond van fabrikant Ad van Geloven. 'Voor een goed product geeft de consument altijd geld uit.'
De Hond denkt dat er zeker consumenten zijn die kiezen voor een afhaalmaaltijd of cafetariabezoek in plaats van naar een restaurant te gaan. Datzelfde verwacht Annemieke Boering van Van Dijk Food. 'Middenklasse restaurants en eetcafés krijgen het lastig', voorspelt ze. 'Hun gasten zijn zeker een doelgroep voor cafetariahouders.'
