De langdurige droogte en verzilting van landbouwgrond zal geen probleem meer voor akkerbouwers zijn.
In het kweekbedrijf van C. Meijer bv in Rilland wordt met succes een zouttolerantieproef uitgevoerd.
Door samenwerking tussen veredelaars en universiteiten loopt de Nederlandse akkerbouw internationaal voorop in het creëren van aardappelrassen die bestand zijn tegen de gevolgen van klimaatverandering.
Naast de proef in Rilland, die in samenwerking met de provincie Zeeland en de ZLTO wordt uitgevoerd, worden er ook goede resultaten in het noorden van het land geboekt.
Het duurt naar verwachting zo'n tien jaar voordat de zilte aardappel in de supermarkt ligt.
