Iceland Foods Limited

Potatoes in retail
Company Description

Iceland Foods is a British food retailer that specializes in frozen foods. They also provide fresh, chilled, and ambient groceries, as well as certain non-food products. The store sells fresh potatoes, frozen chips and fries, roast and mashed potatoes, hash browns, potato shapes, croquettes, jacket potatoes, and potato waffles. Its online grocery store also sells potatoes from brands and vendors such as McCain, Banisters Yorkshire Family Farm, Aunt Bessie's, Wilson's Country, and Mash Direct.

Iceland Foods was founded in 1970 when Malcolm Walker opened the first Iceland shop in Oswestry, Shropshire, initially selling loose frozen food. The business expanded across the UK, opened its first purpose-built freezer centre in Manchester in 1978 and became a public company in 1984. In 1989, Iceland acquired Bejam, expanding its store network to 465 locations. The company later developed nationwide home delivery and online grocery services.

Iceland Foods now operates over 970 stores in the UK under the Iceland and The Food Warehouse brands, with support from regional distribution centers. Iceland worldwide, the group's worldwide trading division, exports Iceland's own-label products to over 65 countries.
