Potatoes in Practice 2026 to take place in Scotland on August 13 with focus on future of potato industry

Potatoes in Practice 2026, Scotland's largest field-based potato event, will take place on Thursday, August 13, at The James Hutton Institute's Balruddery Farm in Invergowrie, near Dundee.

The event will take place a week later than usual and will focus on future-proofing the potato industry. It will bring together growers, agronomists and industry professionals with scientists, breeders and farmers to explore the latest research, innovation and crop developments shaping potato production.
 

Field trials, seminars and industry collaboration

Potatoes in Practice is hosted by The James Hutton Institute through the National Potato Innovation Centre (NPIC), in partnership with SRUC and Agrii. The event aims to support collaboration, knowledge exchange and agricultural innovation across the potato industry.

The programme will include exhibitors, field trials and technical seminars, offering practical insights into current challenges and opportunities across the sector.
 

Cookery demonstration and visitor information

Sarah Rankin, former MasterChef finalist, will deliver a live cookery demonstration at Potatoes in Practice 2026, showcasing potato-based dishes.

Potatoes in Practice 2026 will also include a live cookery demonstration by Sarah Rankin, former MasterChef finalist and now a food writer, broadcaster and private chef. Her potato-based dishes will highlight the versatility and value of the crop.
