August 27, 2009

McCain Foods today announced the opening of a new cold-store facility built at a cost of NZ $6 million dollars in Hastings, New Zealand.

The 1800 square metre cold store, which was designed to McCain Foods global standards, has the capacity to store up to 2,000 tonnes of frozen meals and vegetables.

McCain Foods Australia/New Zealand Operations Director Mr Graham Harvey said this is a significant investment to improve the Hastings Vegetable and Prepared Foods plant.

Mr Harvey said the Hastings plant performs a vital role in producing goods for export with up to 80 per cent of the vegetable production destined for offshore markets.

"The plant will now benefit with a state-of-the-art energy-efficient refrigeration system, new roads and car parking, and a high tech security system that we can all be proud of,"he said.
