Manitoba Potato Growers reach deal with McCain Foods
May 12, 2010
Growers of processing potatoes in Manitoba have approved a deal with McCain Foods which will see production drop by 12 percent, with prices down around 15 percent.

Gary Sloik, general manager of the Keystone Potato Producers Association, says growers were left with little choice.

"Growers have realized it's late enough in the year that we needed to move on. There was a lot of disappointment with price falling as far as it has."

Potato acreage with Simplot Canada will be equal to last year, however it's expected prices will also be down around 15 percent.
