Deadline for World Potato Congress Industry Awards Nominations approaching

World Potato Congress Inc. General Manager, John Coady, stated recently that, “We are fast approaching the deadline for submission of nominees for the internationally respected WPC Industry Awards.” To insure that deserving individuals are recognized, applications should be completed and forwarded soon.

The World Potato Congress Awards are an important and prestigious event on the international potato scene.

They recognise lifetime contributions from individuals, to the potato industry. Typically four outstanding individuals are recognized, during the awards presentation ceremony, at the triennial Congress.

The next Congress will be held at Edinburgh, Scotland, in May 2012.

Written nominations are invited for submission. The application form and submission instructions appear on the World Potato Congress website www.potatocongress.org.

Applications close on November 1st 2011. All submissions will be acknowledged.

The Chairman of the 2012 World Potato Congress Awards Committee is Mr Douglas (Doug) Harley, Managing Director, Alexander Harley Seeds limited, Scotland. Other committee members include: Kimberley Warren, Editorial Director, Spudman Magazine, USA;Dr. Ben Pieterse, Agronomy Manager, McCain Foods, South Africa and Dr. Bir Pal Singh, Director, Central Potato Research Institute, India.

The Awards Committee will assess all written applications and make appropriate recommendations to the WPC Board.

Prominent recipients who have received awards include J. R. Simplot and Harrison McCain. The recipients of the 2009 Awards, which were presented at the Congress in Christchurch, NZ, are: Ron Gall, New Zealand;Gregg Halverson, USA;Hardev Singh Sangha, India;and Joop N (Johannes Nicolaas) Stet, the Netherlands.
