Het Deense parlement heeft een heffing goedgekeurd op verzadigd vet in bepaalde levensmiddelen.
De heffing op verzadigd vet is onderdeel van een herstructurering van het Deense belastingssysteem. Daarbij wil de overheid hogere belastingen heffen op factoren die bijdragen tot een ongezonde levensstijl, zoals tabak, alcohol, vervuiling en ongezonde voeding.
De belasting, zoals ze momenteel is goedgekeurd door het parlement, zal gelden voor producten met meer dan 2,3 procent verzadigd vet, uit de categorieën zuivel, vlees, dierlijk vet, plantaardige vetten en oliën, margarine en andere vetproducten en emulsies (ook als ingrediënt). Voor bewerkte voedingsmiddelen zoals voorgebakken frieten uit andere EU-landen, geldt een belasting op het verzadigd vet in de bereidingsvetten.
De heffing zal ongeveer 2,15 euro per kilogram verzadigd vet bedragen, niet berekend op de hoeveelheid verzadigd vet in het eindproduct, maar op de hoeveelheid verzadigd vet gebruikt in het productieproces.
