Over 18,000 portions of boiled potatoes and meat were distributed at "Japan's largest boiled potato festival,"held in the Mamigasaki district of Yamagata on Sept. 4.

The meals, cooked in a gigantic pot spanning 6 meters in diameter and served in soy and miso flavors, included only locally produced ingredients, pretested for radioactive materials.

The event organizers invited 80 earthquake and tsunami victims from Miyagi Prefecture, as well as 40 evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture who currently reside in Yamagata city to participate in the festival as guests.
