Spudmaster Colossal Potato Chip Brand revived by Missouri Family

March 26, 2011
Missourians can once again claim their state as the home of one of the world’s largest potato chips. Bellflower-based Colossal Chip Company and The Sissom Family finalized purchase of the legendary Spudmaster recipe, branding and equipment in February 2011. The Sissom Family brings years of business experience and has deep roots in Montgomery, Warren, and St. Louis Counties.  In the face of a challenging worldwide business environment, the family shows that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the United States

‘Spudmaster’ had been a popular hand-made Missouri chip brand marketed nationwide until last year.

During one of the greatest economic downturns in U.S. history, the Sissom’s were saddened to see such a great product discontinue production in early 2010 due to no fault of its own. The desire to bring jobs to their community and to also revive a great gourmet chip drove them in their acquisition.

Producing the world’s largest potato chip requires a specific size and variety of potato.

After a journey of more than 1,300 miles from Idaho’s fertile fields, the potatoes arrived on March 7th and the production team produced what re-hired original ‘Spud Team’ members claimed were the nicest chips they had ever seen at the factory.

The Spudmaster chip is renowned for its magnificent size, crunch, and flavor derived from its patent-pending process.

The Colossal Chip team scrubs - but never peels - their spuds, leaving all the nutrients and fiber intact. Gently blanched in 100% pure peanut oil, hand-seasoned, and lightly baked, the chips boast no trans fats, cholesterol, artificial preservatives, hydrogenated oil, MSG, artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, nor genetically modified organisms.

The Sissom brothers, Kirk, Scott, and Todd, began engaging customers this week so watch your local finer foods grocer’s shelves for the re-emergence of this iconic potato chip brand.
