Waitrose to stock Kent Crisps in selected county stores
October 15, 2011

Kent Crisps announces that Waitrose is to stock all four flavours of premium, hand-cooked Kent Crisps at selected Kent stores from October.

This includes the new Canterbury store due to open on October 6 when shoppers will be able to sample Kent Crisps. Other stores are Ramsgate, Ashford, Dartford and Bluewater.

Launched in March this year, Kent Crisps which reflect the flavours and landscapes of the ‘Garden of England’, have become a firm favourite with crisps lovers – selling more than 250,000 packets in a short time, ahead of expected demand.

They are made from potatoes grown at the Quex Park Estate, Birchington, Kent, using sustainable methods – an important factor for the estate’s conservation aims. The Ashmore Cheese and Onion flavour has already won a Great Taste Award. Other flavours are Sea Salt and Biddenden Cider Vinegar, Oyster and Vinegar (a first for the crisps industry), and Sea Salt. All contain only natural flavours and colours and are available in 40g bags. MasterChef John Torode recently described the crisps as ‘delicious’.

Producers Quex Foods are thrilled Waitrose has decided to stock Kent Crisps. Anthony Curwen, the company’s managing director, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received for Kent Crisps, it’s been beyond our expectations. For Waitrose to stock our crisps is a thoroughly wonderful endorsement of the quality and provenance we strive to achieve.”

Tracey Marshall, Waitrose’s product manager local and regional, said: “Kent Crisps are a quality local food, traditionally made by producers respected by their communities. All this makes them perfect for our shoppers and we are delighted to stock them.”
