McCain Foods and Cargill are deepening their long-standing collaboration to drive innovation and sustainability in Indias frozen food category. The partnership focuses on delivering tasty, responsibly produced food options to Indian consumers while supporting industry-wide transformation.

Rising demand and market growth

The popularity of French fries continues to grow in India. The frozen potato food industry is projected to increase at a CAGR of 10.3 percent between 2025 and 2033, fuelled by rising disposable incomes, rapid expansion of quick service restaurants, and easy digital access. Changing consumer expectations around nutrition, transparency and sustainability are also reshaping the market.

McCain, a dominant frozen potato player in India, has worked with Cargill for nearly two decades. What began as technical support has evolved into a strategic collaboration focused on sustainable sourcing, product innovation and market responsiveness. The partnership is now delivering strong volumes, while adapting to consumer trends and supporting environmental goals.

A major milestone in this journey was McCain leading the transition to 100 percent RSPO Segregated palm oil across its India portfolio. This shift, enabled by Cargill as a key supply partner, established McCain as the first company in Indias frozen foods sector to adopt segregated palm oil at scale.

Shared vision for sustainability

With Indias health and wellness food market projected to grow at a CAGR of 18.5 percent through 2031, consumers are seeking convenient products that are better for them. McCain and Cargill are working on next-generation soft oil blends to enhance French fry quality and strengthen nutritional profiles, ensuring products remain consistent, delicious and aligned with consumer expectations.
