Idahoan Foods has announced plans to permanently close its potato processing facility in Rupert, Idaho, a move that will affect 61 employees and mark the end of operations at the site after decades of production.

The Idaho Falls-based company, known for its instant mashed potato products and other potato-based foods, confirmed that operations at the Rupert facility on Oneida Street will continue through the end of June 2026 before the plant is permanently shut down.

According to a notice filed with the Idaho Department of Labor, 61 workers will be impacted by the closure. The facility has been part of Idahoan Foods' manufacturing network and contributes to the processing of Idaho-grown potatoes.

Dale Clemiss, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Idahoan Foods:

"Idahoan Foods has made the decision to permanently close its Rupert, Idaho facility. The company has notified affected employees and is following all applicable notice requirements. Operations at the Rupert facility are expected to continue through the end of June 2026. Idahoan Foods is committed to supporting its employees through this transition and will continue to operate safely and reliably across all facilities."

The company has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind the closure. Despite inquiries from local media, no further details regarding the decision have been reported.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Idahoan Foods has become one of the most recognizable names in the potato industry, particularly for its convenient mashed potato products sold across domestic and international markets.

The closure represents another significant change for the Magic Valley's food processing sector and will have an impact on the local workforce as employees prepare for the transition over the coming months.
