Global Potato Summit 2026 will feature an international conference covering potato production, trade, seed innovation, processing technologies, cold-chain infrastructure and sustainable production
Global Potato Summit 2026 to Bring India Potato Value Chain Together in Gujarat

India's potato industry is entering a period of significant change, with processing demand, specialised varieties, technology and stronger market linkages creating new opportunities around the country's large production base. Against this backdrop, the second edition of the Global Potato Summit (GPS 2026) will be held on 16–17 December 2026 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Organised by Media Today Pvt. Ltd., the summit will bring together growers, seed companies, processors, exporters, snack manufacturers, technology providers, researchers, policymakers, investors and buyers from across the potato value chain.
M. B. Naqvi, Chief Coordinator and CEO of the event:
"India has tremendous strength in potato production, but the next stage is about how we can create greater value across the entire chain, from seed and cultivation through storage, processing and trade. The Global Potato Summit is intended to bring these different parts of the industry together and create opportunities for knowledge exchange, partnerships and investment."

The exhibition at Global Potato Summit 2026 will provide a platform for potato industry companies, producers and technology providers to build partnerships and explore new market opportunities
India produces close to 60 million tonnes of potatoes annually
India produces close to 60 million tonnes of potatoes annually, making it the world's second-largest producer. Yet the scale of production does not always translate into efficient market connections.
M. B. Naqvi:
"The sector remains fragmented, with farmers, traders, cold stores, processors and buyers often operating through separate networks. Finding the right market for a particular variety or quality remains a challenge, while fresh exports continue to be influenced by seasonal supply and price opportunities."
Potato processing creates new opportunities
Processing is becoming an increasingly important avenue for growth. India's processing industry currently consumes around 3 million tonnes of potatoes annually, with demand for frozen fries, chips, flakes and other products supported by the expansion of quick-service restaurants, modern retail and food delivery.
M. B. Naqvi:
"Processing is changing the conversation around potatoes in India. There is growing interest in varieties suited specifically to processing, better quality management, contract farming, mechanisation and technologies that can improve efficiency from the farm onwards."
Gujarat selected as the venue for GPS 2026
Gujarat has been selected as the venue for GPS 2026 in part because of its growing importance as a potato-processing and food-manufacturing hub. The state has access to processing-grade potatoes, cold-storage and logistics infrastructure, a strong food-processing sector and connectivity to domestic and international markets.
The two-day event will combine an international conference with an exhibition and curated farm and factory visits. Conference sessions will cover global potato production and trade, seed innovation, disease and pest management, mechanisation, cold-chain infrastructure, processing technologies, consumer trends and sustainable production.
The programme will also look at broader questions around food and nutrition security, opportunities for women farmers and young entrepreneurs, and the role of MSMEs and technology in developing the potato value chain.
M. B. Naqvi:
"The industry needs to look beyond production volumes and address the gaps between the farm, the market and the final consumer. We want GPS 2026 to be a place where growers can meet technology providers, processors can connect with producers, and international businesses can better understand the opportunities in India."

Global Potato Summit 2026 will bring together potato growers, seed companies, processors, exporters, technology providers and buyers to explore business opportunities across the value chain
The organisers expect more than 15,000 delegates and trade visitors from over 15 countries, making the summit a platform for both domestic and international stakeholders to explore commercial partnerships, technology solutions and investment opportunities in one of the world's largest potato markets.
