Harinder Farms, in Punjab, India successfully organized the 3rd Innovative Seed Show, bringing together potato growers, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders to exchange knowledge and discuss the future of crop production and seed potato systems.

The session focused on Early Generation Seed Potato production by Harindra Biotech, highlighting key agronomic practices including field preparation, seed selection, fertigation planning, crop protection, and haulm management.

Field demonstrations and varietal performance

A major highlight of the event was the field demonstration of Harindra Biotech’s complete varietal portfolio. At 75 days after planting, all varieties had reached the maturing stage, allowing farmers to assess crop performance under real field conditions.

Strip tests and yield estimation exercises were conducted to demonstrate varietal potential, uniformity, and productivity across the portfolio. The demonstrations encouraged active interaction between farmers and the technical team, particularly around basal dose planning, crop nutrition strategies, and variety-specific crop care practices.

Support programs and crop diversification

During the event, Harinder Farms introduced Harindra Grow, an initiative aimed at supporting farmers through structured seed potato multiplication practices and improved market linkages.

Farmers were also encouraged to explore maize cultivation as an alternative to traditional grain crops. Broader discussions addressed soil health management, improved irrigation practices, cropping pattern diversification, and alternatives to water-intensive paddy cultivation.

Participants gather around strip trials and yield samples to assess crop uniformity and discuss seed selection, nutrition strategies, and agronomic practices at the Harinder Farms event.

Experiential engagement and farmer interaction

An experiential element of the event included a potato-based menu prepared for visiting farmers, featuring French fries, wedges, and sand-roasted potatoes served with freshly prepared condiments. The activity aimed to showcase the versatility and consumer appeal of potato products.

Harinder Singh Dhindsa, Director at Harinder Farms:

"To improve potato productivity across different growing regions, we must focus on seed quality at the grassroots level. Strong seed systems form the foundation for better yields, healthier crops, and more reliable outcomes for farmers."

The Innovative Seed Show served as a platform for knowledge exchange and farmer engagement, reinforcing efforts to strengthen early-generation seed potato systems and improve on-farm performance.
