Potato Tuesday, October 6, 2026, celebrates Dutch potatoes and the people behind the industry.
Dutch Potato Organisation Celebrated Potato Tuesday at Utrecht Central Station on October 6

The Dutch Potato Organisation (Nederlandse Aardappel Organisatie, NAO) celebrated Potato Tuesday on October 6 at Utrecht Central Station, bringing the potato into the spotlight during the Week of Our Food, which runs from October 3 to 10, 2026.
The event will highlight the importance of potatoes in the Dutch food sector and the people involved in bringing them from the field to consumers' plates.
At Utrecht Central Station, one of the busiest transport hubs in the Netherlands, the NAO will set up a stand and invite passers-by to answer the question: "What are we eating tonight?" Visitors will receive recipe booklets featuring a variety of delicious potato dishes, alongside stories about the people working in potato breeding, cultivation, trading, packaging and processing.
The initiative aims to showcase the versatility of potatoes and the contribution of the Dutch potato sector to the country's food supply.
Celebrating the potato and the people behind it
However, the NAO wants to highlight not only the potato itself but also the people and businesses responsible for ensuring its quality, availability and sustainability.
Janine Luten, director of the Dutch Potato Organisation (NAO):
"Potatoes are a modern base for almost any dish. They fit well into today's diet: tasty, nutritious and versatile. Behind them is a strong Dutch sector of companies and people who work every day on quality, innovation and a sustainable food supply."
"With Potato Tuesday, we want to tell that complete story: about the potato and about the people who ensure that it ends up on our plates."
Recipes and stories from food influencers
The recipe booklet distributed at Utrecht Central Station will feature recipes from food influencers, who will also share their own love of potatoes.
On September 29, influencers will publish their potato recipes on Instagram and TikTok, giving audiences inspiration for preparing potato-based meals at home.
Additional information about potatoes and the campaign will be available on the NAO's website, www.aardappels.nl. The organisation will also support Potato Tuesday through radio and social media campaigns.
Through these activities, the NAO hopes to reach a broad audience and encourage consumers to discover new ways of incorporating potatoes into their daily meals.
Potato Tuesday at the heart of the Netherlands
Utrecht Central Station has been chosen as the location for the event because of its central position and the large number of people passing through it every day.
On October 6, the NAO will bring the potato directly to consumers, offering recipe inspiration and an opportunity to learn more about the Dutch potato industry.
The event forms part of the Week of Our Food, an annual initiative highlighting food production, nutrition and the people working throughout the food supply chain.
