Tijdens drie NAV-bijeenkomsten in Zeewolde, Emmeloord en Swifterbant hebben de aanwezige aardappeltelers op 15 en 17 december 2008 besloten hun krachten te bundelen in United Potato Growers Flevoland in oprichting. Deelnemers aan de nieuwe telersvereniging UPG Flevoland zijn ontevreden over de structureel te lage opbrengstprijs van consumptieaardappelen.
De afgelopen jaren lag de opbrengstprijs structureel aanzienlijk onder de kostprijs plus ondernemersmarge. Dat kan en mag zo niet doorgaan stellen de Flevolandse initiatiefnemers. UPG Flevoland roept op tot een areaalkrimp van 10% in 2009 ten opzichte van 2008. Hiertoe tekenen de deelnemers een morele overeenkomst met elkaar. Daarnaast is afgesproken dat men geen contracten tekent voor de levering van consumptieaardappelen oogst 2009 beneden de kostprijs plus de gewenste ondernemersmarge. De telersvereniging roept alle consumptieaardappeltelers in Flevoland op tot deelname: 10% areaalkrimp, geen contracten tekenen beneden kostprijs plus ondernemersmarge en deelnemen aan UPG Flevoland.
