Aardappelen en industriegroenten vallen in de nieuwe Global Gap-richtlijn onder de module machinaal oogstbare gewassen.
De nieuwe richtlijn geldt vanaf teeltseizoen 2011. Volgens accountmanager Geert Staring van certificeringsbedrijf NAK Agro scheelt dat de telers veel ongemak en administratie. "Tot nu toe worden aardappelen gezien als groenten, die vaak met de hand worden geoogst. Daar stellen supermarkten strengere eisen aan dan aan gewassen als suikerbieten, uien of graan die machinaal worden geoogst. Zo vervalt bij aardappelen de eis dat een toilet en handwasgelegenheid beschikbaar moet zijn binnen 500 meter van de werkplek."
