El Instituto de Biotecnología de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia desarrolló recientemente una herramienta para el diagnóstico de la enfermedad. A través de una metodología denominada inmunoimpresión (IMI), la detección viral se realiza empleando un anticuerpo específico de reconocimiento. Ya se encuentra disponible para su venta.
