Making a potato variety heat tolerant could be as simple as switching a single gene
Scientists have identified a version of a single gene involved in the heat stress response that is more active in potato types that can tolerate high temperature, potentially providing potato breeders a tool to make potato varieties less vulnerable to increased temperature.

Three musketeers (3Ms) invest in potato grading and sorting line
With six farms as shareholders of 3Ms (Three Musketeers) operating more than 34,000 acres, they have contracted Haith, Tomra and Dijkstra to put in a new state-of-the-art potato grading and sorting line at their site at Bentwaters, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. A brand new building for this has been constructed also.

FAO Food Price Index rebounds in May
The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 172.6 points in May 2017, up 3.7 points (2.2 percent) from April and nearly 16 points (10 percent) higher than its May 2016 level. The rebound in the value of the Index followed three months of consecutive declines.
