Evoqua was formed in 2013, when AEA Investors LP acquired Siemens Water Technologies - a Siemens subsidiary with a staff of 4000 people - and continued it as an independent company. Since then the company has made numerous acquisitions and began trading at the NYSE in 2017. Evoqua now operates more than 170 offices, plants and factories throughout Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Singapore, the United Kingdom and United States. In August 2019 the company reported expected annual revenues to be in the range of USD 1.38 billion to USD 1.44 billion and Adjusted EBITDA to be in the range of USD 220 million to USD 240 million.

Evoqua Water Technologies built a portfolio of water-treatment technologies through organic growth and the acquisition of existing water-treatment businesses and brands. The company provided industrial and municipal customers with engineered systems, equipment, consumables, mobile water services, and professional support. In May 2023, Xylem Inc. bought Evoqua in an all-stock transaction valued at over $7.5 billion. Following the acquisition, Evoqua's technologies and businesses were incorporated into Xylem's overall water technology portfolio. Xylem continues to maintain Evoqua as a well-known portfolio and legacy brand for products and services utilized by existing customers.
